Ken Floyd

With more than 30 years of experience, Ken is a distinguished energy executive and investment strategist. Ken currently serves as the Partner of Utility Operations at Twenty-First Century Utilities, a power and utility investment firm.

Ken served as the Senior Customer Service Executive at SMUD overseeing customer care, utility rate design, marketing, energy efficiency, and customer programs. During Ken’s successful tenure at SMUD:

  • SMUD achieved a J.D. Power rating of 1st. for overall customer satisfaction in the West.

  • Reduced overall operating costs in the Customer business unit by 15% over two years.

  • Spearheaded partnerships with local home developers to build the nation’s largest solar home community.

  • Championed workplace safety, reducing employee injury rates and preventable auto accidents by 40%.

Ken transitioned from SMUD to Xcel Energy, an investor-owned utility, where he served as Vice President, Marketing and Customer Solutions. In that role, Ken directed marketing, customer care, smart grid strategy, and all “meter-to-cash” functions. At Xcel, he managed a team of 1,800 employees spanning 8 states and multiple regulatory jurisdictions. Accomplishments include:

  • Elevated customer satisfaction and employee engagement performance from the 3rd quartile to the top quartile.

  • Delivered $27 million in Demand Side Management benefits directly to the utility bottom line.

  • Systematically reduced organizational operating expenses by approximately 5% for 3 consecutive years while lowering net bad debt write-offs by 15%.

Ken then served as the Executive Vice President of Utility Operations at Atlantic Power & Utilities playing a pivotal role in driving business development, stakeholder relationships, regulatory strategy and value realization across major North American and Caribbean. Industry-related transactions include:

  • Led utility engagement and assisted in securing equity capital commitments exceeding $2 billion directed at M&A activities across four regulated utilities.

  • Played a lead role in evaluating and acquiring a controlling position in GridPoint, a recognized leader in energy management technology that decarbonizes commercial buildings and drives grid modernization.
